Effective Home Treatment for Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV)

A research article was published in July 2010 that found use of a device called "DizzyFIX" had cure rates for BPPV (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo) of ~88% which is similar to standard treatment (Semont and Epley maneuvers) performed by a physician.

Although there are YouTube videos on how to do the Epley and Semont maneuvers correctly, unfortunately, patients rarely do it correctly when doing it privately at home resulting in prolongation of their symptoms.

The "DizzyFIX" device can be used at home and takes the patient through the CORRECT maneuvers to cure them of the dizzy attacks if due to BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo).

Watch a video here on how this device works.

Feeling Dizzy or Having Vertigo? There's an iPhone App for That!!!

On April 22, 2010, Clearwater Clinical Limited released an iPhone application that helps clinicians diagnose and perform the Epley maneuver in patients with BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo).

The way it works is by placing the iPhone over the patient's forehead and than following the instructions as shown on the iPhone through each of the Epley steps.

When I tried it out, it does seem to correctly take the patient thru the appropriate steps... however, I would add one more step. Place a tissue between the iPhone and patient's forehead before use (for sanitary reasons).

New Webpage on Dizziness

A new webpage describing dizziness and its various causes has been created. Though our office does not consider itself "dizzy experts," and is unable to provide the comprehensive evaluation and treatment of this problem other than those disorders due to the ear or allergies, we are often able to at least point patients in the right direction even if in the end we are unable to provide relief.
